Printشرق وغرب – وصل وزير الدفاع الأمريكي مارك إسبر، الإثنين، إلى السعودية في زيارة "مفاجئة"، حيث كان في استقباله نائب وزير الدفاع السعودي، الأمير خالد بن سلمان.
وأفادت السفارة الأمريكية في السعودية، الثلاثاء، ان إسبر التقى برفقة السفير الأمريكي لدى السعودية جون أبي زيد الملك سلمان خلال زيارته للرياض.
وأضافت: ناقش الجانبان خلال اللقاء استضافة القوات الأمريكية في السعودية من أجل اتخاذ موقف حازم في المنطقة لردع السلوك الإيراني الخبيث وتعزيز الاستقرار الإقليمي.
وهذا، وذكرت وكالة الأنباء السعودية (واس) ان الملك سلمان استقبل في مكتبه، الثلاثاء، وزير الدفاع الأمريكي مارك إسبر.
وقالت الوكالة: "جرى خلال الاستقبال، استعراض علاقات الصداقة السعودية الأمريكية، وأوجه التعاون الاستراتيجي بين البلدين"، مضيفة "كما تم بحث عدد من القضايا الأمنية والدفاعية المشتركة، إضافة إلى مستجدات الأوضاع في المنطقة والجهود المبذولة تجاهها."
كما التقى إسبر، الثلاثاء، بولي العهد السعودي، الأمير محمد بن سلمان، كذلك.
وبحسب (واس)، "جرى خلال الاجتماع، استعراض أوجه العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين الصديقين، ومجالات التعاون المتعلقة بالجانب العسكري والدفاعي، بالإضافة إلى بحث عدد من المسائل خاصة تطورات الأحداث الإقليمية والدولية، وتنسيق الجهود المبذولة بشأنها."
ويعد لقاء وزير الدفاع الأمريكي والأمير محمد بن سلمان هو الثالث بين إسبر ومسؤول سعودي رفيع منذ وصوله في هذه الزيارة غير محددة المدة، بعد لقائه العاهل السعودي الثلاثاء، ونجله نائب وزير الدفاع، الأمير خالد بن سلمان، يوم الإثنين.
في هذا السياق، يقول الزميل الأقدم في Gold Institute For International Strategies، ماثيو بردوسكي، ان لقاء إسبر في المملكة العربية السعودية يأتي في سياق قرار انسحاب ترامب من سوريا ورحلة بوتين الأخيرة إلى المملكة.
وكان الرئيس الروسي، فلاديمير بوتين، قد أجرى زيارة إلى السعودية مؤخراً، تعد هي الأولى من نوعها منذ اثني عشر عاماً.
ويضيف برودسكي لـ"شرق وغرب": لدى إسبر مهمة صعبة في إقناع الحلفاء بأن الولايات المتحدة ستظل تقف معهم، وبأن هناك جبهة موحدة حول كيفية التعامل مع عدوان إيران الاقليمي وبرنامجها النووي، ولتوضيح النسخة الأخيرة من سياسة واشنطن في سوريا.
ويشير إلى ان التعليقات والأفعال الأخيرة للرئيس ترامب – بما فيها الاحتضان الغريب الجديد لرئيس تركيا إردوغان – قد منحت العديد من الحلفاء التقليديين في المنطقة سببًا للقلق.
ويلفت إلى ان السؤال الذي يستحق أن يطرح هو حول كم ستعني كلمات التطمين من أي شخص آخر غير ترامب؟ هذا ما يبقى أن نراه.
